How to ensure that you profit from your website.
A Tailor-Made Way to Monetize Your Webpage / Website
Introduction... Making your website pay.
Google's new AdSense is a fascinating revenue-sharing opportunity for small, medium and large web sites.
https://www.google.com/adsense/
AdSense is a new service that allows you to serve text-based Google AdWords on your web site and receive a share of the pay-per-click payment.
Basically, you place Google AdWords on your site(s). For every ad clicked, you receive money (a share of what Google receives from the advertiser).
AdSense ads are just like the AdWords ads you see on the right-hand side of a Google search results page... except they are on your site.
Google uses its technology and algorithms to determine the content of each of your site's Web pages. It then delivers ads that are contextually relevant to your visitors.
From Google......
We go beyond simple keyword matching to understand the context and content of web pages. Based on an algorithm that includes such factors as keyword analysis, word frequency, font size, and the overall link structure of the web, we know what a page is about, and can precisely match Google ads to each page.
In other words, if you have a site about web hosting, you won't be showing any ads for whale watching or shark diving. Contextual advertising is RELEVANT advertising... which means happier, curious visitors who click on those ads more often.
AdSense brough a "buzz" of excitement as Webmasters and marketers the world over are attaining clickthrough and CPM (cost per thousand impressions) rates not seen since the previous century.
The results of Google's contextual TEXT ads? Various marketing forums and newsletters are reporting (in general terms so as to avoid violating AdSense's confidentiality terms and conditions) high clickthrough rates and earnings.
Pretty neat...
- ads automatically adjust for each page's content
- ongoing advertisers that will never run dry
- easy (and free) to join and implement
- reduced workload -- only need to manage a few lines of code and Google does the work of finding the best ads for your pages from thousands of AdWords advertisers.
- no chasing of advertisers to place ads on your Web site
- the "Google" name could very well enhance your credibility.
- Google provides well written, highly relevant ads – chosen to closely match the content on your pages.
- It's suitable for beginners or marketing veterans.
- AdSense provides simple, easy-to-understand stats.

How Much Can You Earn?
Google does not disclose exactly how much you'll earn per click. The payment you receive depends on how much advertisers are paying Google for the ads. You earn a share of that since you're helping Google display the ads.
So it is logical to believe that the more popular keywords (sex, debt free, mp3, etc.) will earn you more than some of the less popular keyword ads.
Even though Google will not reveal how much you are earning for each ad that is clicked, you can still login to your account at any time and see the total amount of revenue you've generated that day, week, or month.
Why Adsense Works So Well (Unlike Banner Ads)
For years, web site owners have tried to generate revenue from their sites by slapping up banners in hopes of visitors clicking and purchasing a product.
The problem with banner ads is that the Internet audience is so immune to them, people do not click on them anymore.
Second, in order to earn some money from that banner ad, usually the person who clicks has to purchase something. With Adsense, your visitors just have to click the link out of curiosity. They don't have to purchase anything.
Third, most people that use banner ads do not do a good job of targeting the ads so the click thru percentages are dismal.
With Google's Adsense, not only are you displaying text ads, (which tend to receive a much higher click-thru rate than banner ads), but you are displaying ads that are highly related (targeted) to your web site's content.
How to Create The Perfect Site For Google's Adsense
Your web site should have a clear focus with unique, well-organized content. Don't just create a two-page web site with no theme. Google will review your site before it is accepted into the program, so if your site is too small or does not contain enough useful information, it will be rejected.
You should have your OWN WEB SITE. Don't try to create a free Geocities site with banners and pop-ups. The freebie web sites have lost a lot of respect over the years, and it may be harder to get your site accepted if it's created on such a shaky foundation.
Plus, it's so cheap and easy to create a dot com web site these days, there's no reason why you shouldn't. Not to mention, the money you earn from Adsense could more than pay for any web hosting fees.
Building theme-based content sites is the core to building traffic and to Pre selling, no matter what you ultimately want to sell.
Quoted from "GoogleGuy" (an anonymous Google employee who posts on Webmasterworld.com)...
....sites that provide solid content, especially niche sites that don't want to hunt down their own advertisers, should really benefit ... there's a whole universe of people who ... mostly produce informational sites, and the chance to recoup their costs without much effort is nice. I hope AdSense does encourage more diversity and voices on the web, because now smaller sites can work on what they're interested in the content of their sites without worrying very much about the costs of self-publishing information.
This program is a huge gift for small content publishers... AND encourages higher quality content, helping the Net overall.
It encourages ALL web publishers to play by the rules. It fulfills the needs of Search Engines (whose job it is to deliver quality, content-rich, relevant sites to their searching customers). It fulfills your visitor's needs. And lastly, it fulfills your needs by establishing your credibility and expertise.
Every small business person is intent on monetizing his/her passion, expertise or knowledge (either by selling a service, a product or merely by publishing high-value content online). So it's wonderful to have one more practical, positive monetization option, especially when it comes from such a highly credible source like Google.
This is why AdSense is so important too -- it rewards you for creating sites rich in high-quality, focused content... the sort of sites that make the Net a better place! Of course, these are the sites that build trust, establish credibility, and effectively PREsell the products or services you represent. In other words, Google AdSense is encouraging the creation of the sort of sites that already build a viable, profitable, vibrant Web business -- it's even paying you to do it!
BEFORE MONETIZATION.... comes traffic.
TO BUILD TRAFFIC... build content.
Even if you aren't entirely sure the AdSense program is right for your business, Google has made it easy, and so tempting, to test. From the feedback we've gathered...
Clickthrough rates are many times the industry average -- some Webmasters report rates ranging as high as 10-20%.
It appears (at this point) that Google is paying a generous percentage of a keyword's value, enough to beat the income generated by many affiliate programs. Translation? Higher earnings for you.
However, keep in mind that the money YOU earn depends on the competitiveness of your industry, the number of visitors to your site, the number of impressions, clickthrough rates and the value level of your keywords.
Before you even consider Google AdSense as a "monetizing" option for your site, do an evaluation...
First of all, ensure that your site is high quality -- clean, with plenty of great information. Google has to answer to its advertisers, meaning it must maintain a high standard of editorial quality.
Second, review Google's program policies...
https://www.google.com/adsense/policies
.... to ensure you are not inadvertently violating one or more of them.
Remember ... Google puts its name on your site. They'll be picky. And if your site is poor, they might as well take advantage of the work they've done and hurt your Search Engine rankings too.
How to Join Adsense
After you have created your theme-based web site, go to https://www.google.com/adsense to apply. Most sites are either accepted or rejected within 24 hours, so you shouldn't have to wait to long to find out if your application has been approved.

Requires a 468x60 space
Shows up to 2 ads on a given page, horizontally
2) The "Skyscraper" format...
Displays 4 lines of text
Requires a 120x600 space
Shows up to 4 ads per page
Generally produces better results on pages
Once you're accepted into the program, you'll be able to log in to your account. Google generates the appropriate JavaScript code to cut and paste into your Web pages.

Get The Most Out Of AdSense
Most important ...Build traffic. How? By creating more and more great keyword-focused pages, growing your theme- based content site ever larger and larger. Focusing your site's theme, and each page's topic, is key, of course -- the better the focus, the more tightly contextual your ads are likely to be... which means better clickthrough. In other words... more money for you.
